The first poem really spoke to me, even though I have turned into a summer person in my old age. I really can't take cold weather and I really miss the sun. But then I was born in August so perhaps I've grown into it!

Summer takes some growing into, for true -- and aging helps with that! Thanks for being here, Rose.

I'm a November baby and I hate this time of year in the UK, I much prefer the sunshine of Spring. However, I adore your poems, so good!!

So glad you liked the poems, Lisa. Happy birthday (belated), and hold on, spring is coming!

Thanks Elizabeth! :)

I’m the exact opposite. I could be under the sun all day. Yet, I was born in November, but in a tropical country. Happy Birthday!

And happy recent birthday to you, Arnaly! Thanks so much for reading.

These poems are beautiful. I disagree. I was born in February. I have always disliked winter with the cold and snow. Spring and Summer are my happy seasons.

Definitely not a scientific theory! But I'm glad you like the poems, Linda Ruth.

I love these! So beautiful. I am, as ever, the exception to the rule. I was born in July and I hate the heat. I always wished for a winter birthday with sledding or ice skating. I’m a gardener so I do love the summer for that. But my body craves the colder temps of fall and winter.

I knew the theory was bogus! But I'm glad the poems were real for you, Tara.

Beautiful poems! I was born on Christmas Day and winter is my least favourite season so there’s that :/ I’m a summer girl but I think winter it trying to teach me something [still haven’t learned the lesson]

Glad to know a summer soul born in winter, Sonja! Thank you for reading.

Ah, to learn the price of fire. This resonates with me because I'm always cold - but I do like winter. I was, however, born in July and the theory of preferring the season we are born in is very interesting! I wouldn't say mid summer is my favorite time of year.

Maybe you're the exception that proves the rule? Or maybe the "rule" is fun but specious?😂 Either way, thanks so much for reading, Donna.

Gorgeous. I love so many lines, but especially the ending of the second poem:

"I have a heart for winter, for dark and frost-bound days

that sweeten all we know of warmth and light."--what a perspective shift.

Thank you always, Margaret Ann!

Gosh, what beautiful poems, really lovely and moving. Born January 14, always loved the cold, could lie down in snow and snooze.

Having said that, now soon to be 66 and living on top of this mountain with 7 months of winter, I've had my fill and looking forward to being in Mexico in one month.

BTW, "passions pacing hotfoot through the street", man that is some good stuff.

Thanks so much, Wes. Being a winter-person at heart doesn't mean you can't enjoy a little contrast...!

Thanks also for the BTW. I was writing 'way ahead of myself when I wrote that line. Well, that whole small poem.

It could be that “writing ’way ahead” is a good spot for you.

“give me light and heat a room full at a time”

Beautiful poems about when your body is most comfortable.

Hearing your convincingly melodious voice-over, I am touched by your heart for winter.

Thank you so much, Lucinda, for being always such a somatic reader and observer,

noticing what peoples' bodies are saying. It's a gift!

These are beautiful. I, too, have a heart made for darkness and winter.

Thank you, Mary Katherine. Glad to greet another winter heart.

Mk, Are any of these going to be or already in a book? They should be.

Expand full comment

I do agree, that these should be published. Maybe something already in the works?

Expand full comment

Love to hear it.

Wes, MK recently published an amazing collection called "Every Note, a Lantern" with Kelsay Books. I'm guessing there's a link to it on her Substack, @asmallspectacle.

For myself, I'm happy publishing on Substack for now.

I feel like an idiot and I apologize profusely, I am slipping a tad, in some ways.

It’s an honor to be identified with MK!

Have I got two people confused? MK versus Elizabeth?

Expand full comment

Yep, we are separate (excellent) poets! MK is Mary Katherine Creel, writing from the Carolinas; I am Elizabeth Somethingorother, writing from 26th Avenue.

Love these both, including the small doxology in the second poem. And I agree, I was born in November and autumn is my fav!

Expand full comment

Thanks, Brian -- especially for noticing the doxology. All the seasons have their praiseworthy glories; wanted to make that clear, even as I'm clear about which season my heart lives in. I have a sister who's an autumn person, though, so I get that too!
