Loved these images: “cool cloud scented air”

“Tings against fire-escape slats like tympani”

Wonderful descriptors of the blessings of winter! My sentiments exactly why I too, feel better in winter. Thank you Elizabeth !

Love this autumn poem. Your poetry paints such a beautiful picture in my mind. I’m not a visual reader but it’s easy with your writing.

Love this line... “how many drops would be enough to wear away...”

I feel these poems deep in my Nordic bones! I agree that rain and winter are inspiring and energizing. Like you, I'm not feeling the loss of warmth, but a *shift* to feeling the warmth now coming from the inside. And in the midst of the darkness, the Word made flesh keeps breaking through, bringing more warmth and more light. I wish winter were longer. Thank you again for these word-windows on the best season of all.

"I'm not feeling the loss of warmth, but a *shift* to feeling the warmth now coming from the inside." Yes, this! And the light and warmth of the Word, calling and singing to our own.

Thank you always for being here, Ann. Glad to know another lover of winter.

Two more excellent poems which evoke not just the season of winter but also the warmth of summer. They make me think about how my attitudes toward the seasons have changed over the years, I used to dislike summer and loved fall and winter, but now my old bones yearn for warmth and I don't mind the summer heat the way I used to. Thanks for including the Christmas light in your winter poem--that definitely adds hope to the season! See you Sunday!

They are both quite lovely. A Heart For Winter touched me, especially the line

"for dark and frost-bound days

that sweeten all we know of warmth and light."

What you have achieved in this poem is all I could ever ask for as a reader, the way it reached out to me and reminded me. I can't say bravo enough.

Autumn, with her signature light and cool nights, soothes me after summer heat; and for that I am always glad!
