Last week was a whirlwind. I couldn't make time to read this, but I'm so glad I didn't delete it! Earlier in the month, I went looking, unsuccessfully, for a digital advent calendar. Wish I had remembered this option, but even better to come to it through your poetry. That you -- that we all! -- see Bob as the quiet center of Advent is everything. Community is listening, noticing, and meeting people where they are. Thank you so much.

I'm so glad it hung around in your inbox to be the right poem at the right moment, Elizabeth. You sound like just the kind of neighbor Bob would be grateful for. ❤️

At some point in January/February I want to start some kind of Zoom thing with 1/2 dozen other poets. We would meet once a week for an hour. One of us might start things out by reading a favorite poem from another poet, dead or not. Then someone else would share, by both print and reading, a poem they are working on. The rest of us offer suggestions. Let me know what you think about the format- the Zoom part, the readings, the size, the point of it. Wes

What a great community-building (and poem-building) idea, Wes -- you've thought it out really clearly, and the format sounds like it would work fine. If you let me know when it's starting up (honored to be considered for invitation!), I'll come if I can.

Great. I'm going to post something tomorrow on this whole topic. If we get at least 3 interested then we'll give it a whirl. I think you'll enjoy the goofy poem that goes with my pitch for putting together these groups.

I see Bob both leaning into and away from Christmas. That he returns each year is a good sign that

he’s leaning back into the Christmas community who enfolded him and away from the sadness

that isolates him.

I love how your poem embraces both solitude and those who have chosen comradarey

Yes! He can't quite join in the festivities yet, but he doesn't stay home alone, he keeps walking along the edges of his community ... taking in as much Christmas as he can.

You get Bob, and you get me. Love you, Looocinda. ❤️

Such fun to read through that. I really appreciated the tempo of your writing, just generous and open hearted as the topic. thanks

Thank you, Weston. Not everyone takes note of tempo, but somebody who writes about dancing so often would pay attention to the pace of the music. Much appreciated.

Oh your golden heart! 💛 A true poet always holds the joy and sadness together.
