Elizabeth, this is beautiful. I have a lovely colleague who is patiently teaching me one Spanish phrase per day. She writes it down on a Post-It Note and teaches me how to pronounce it beautifully. The first one read:

*Todo bien*

What a hopeful, peaceful place to start! Happy learning, Ann, and thanks for being here.

¡Estoy aprendiendo español tambien! Somos los mismos.

I’ve been learning Spanish for a long time because I’ve been married to a native speaker for over thirty years! I am not fluent yet, though I can get by. For a long time now I’ve understood more than I could speak, and one time many years ago I surprised my in-laws by answering, in English, a question they had asked my husband in Spanish. I didn’t even realize what I had done until they all looked at me with stunned expressions. 😆

¡Somos las mismas en verdad! Somos diferentes tambien, because I'm learning online from a little green owl and his friends, and you're learning by osmosis from actual humans. Which I need to start doing soon as well. Thanks so much for reading and restacking, Rebecca.

I’m using the owl too. Hubby is not as much help as you might think! 😆

Acquiring another language is like building a bridge to another people’s life and they have always been appreciative no matter how weak my skill.

We wrote into parallel themes today, Elizabeth, only were I to have spoken it, which I can't, the language in question would have been Portuguese. https://www.elizabethbeggins.com/p/unforgettable-and-already-gone

This made me doubly appreciate your lovely poem. Plus singing. I'll always enjoy singing.

Looking forward to reading your post, Elizabeth! So glad you enjoyed the poem.

I encourage you to join the Choir again: All singing the same song and making a beautiful sound 🎶

Fond memories of singing in the choir when I did, and it's a pleasure to sing along from the pews with the one we have now. Thanks so much for reading, Shari!

I was an exchange student in Japan one summer long, long ago. My host family did not speak English and I did not (do not) speak Japanese. However, my host father knew old show tunes and a favorite memory of mine is of the two of us belting away in the train stations. :)

What a great memory, Catherine! Thank you for reading, and for sharing that story. I can picture the two of you. <3
