That deep blue thread
Love poems for you at the start of a new year
Love poems? Yes, love poems. For you? Yes, for your own astonishing self. Celebrating your presence in the world, how you move through your days, the light you share with the people around you.
Love and gratitude for who you’ve been in the last year, and who you’ll be in the year to come. Love and gratitude especially for who you are today.
YOUR LIFE 2025
That deep blue thread, woven just here and there
among the browns and leafish greens. The row
of small black tiles in a mosaic that define
the story it is telling. A brush-stroke of a cloud,
not the horizon but showing where the painter
thinks it lies, not the sky but showing
where the sky and bright horizon meet.FOR WHAT YOU LOVE, FOR YOU 2025
I send you the green sycamore bough
that taps my shoulder like a sister,
the bustle of a busy dog’s back legs,
the silver curves of a cat asleep on the sill.
I send you the way shadows shift
as clouds drift in front of the sun,
the look on a mother’s face as her child
races five steps ahead, four back,
the twilight hush of a city street
after sunset, before all the curtains are drawn.
Scraps of wholeness, knots and braids
of now, this ragged momentary motley
is what my heart sends yours, because
I do not know what else to send, because
these are the things I love the most today,
these are my prayer for what you love, for you.

Lovely, thank you!
Bustle of a busy dog’s back legs…Puff!
Perfect description of a sleeping cat, too
I’ve got one to send you from Bend:
The diamond sparkle of smooth snowy meadows
So lovely.
